Multiple Red Columns (The Forbidden City) 一群红柱子 (故宫), LI Shan 李珊, 1970s. Oil on cardboard 纸板油画, 39 x 24 cm
Time: Saturday, 22 April 2017, 2-4 pm
Venue: Don Gallery Fuxing Road Space, Unit 26, 1331 Middle Fuxing Road, Shanghai
Don Gallery has recently opened up an expansive space in the art hub of the West Bund and will soon be closing its gallery space at the Blackstone Apartment on Middle Fuxing Road. It is with a touch of sadness and nostalgia that we say goodbye to this charming lovely space that has contributed much to the Shanghai art world. In the past 5 years, many exciting and subversive happenings as well as serene and contemplative exhibitions have taken place at the Fuxing Road space. It is thus befitting to close past successes with an artist talk with Li Shan, who has made and been history herself in Beijing’s early art scene. Art Historian Julie Chun will be in conversation with Li Shan to discuss the pivotal importance of the “No Name” (Wuming) Group within the context of Chinese contemporary art history. Li Shan will share her memories and anecdotes, many of which are relayed in her intimate paintings from the early period of mid 1970s and presented in her current solo exhibition “Fuxing Renaissance” at Don Gallery till April 30th. Please come join us for an enlightening afternoon of art historical discussion, followed by coffee, tea and refreshments as we bid farewell and herald in a new beginning to Don Gallery’s future cultural endeavors.
This event is free of charge. Please email dongallery@qq.com in advance to reserve a place.
