ZHANG Ruyi is participating “A World in a Grain of Sand: Mapping Shapes and Sites for Social Geometries,” an exhibition drawn from Fosun Foundation Collection curated by Robin Peckham in Sanya, Hainan. Paper work Secret Room—1 & 2 & 3 (2012), panel work Arc—2 (2017), and sculpture work Density (2017) by ZHANG are included in Part I, “Architecture and Body,” illustrating that the city has gradually lost control because of excessive development, while the spatial structure in disorder results in the emergence of “external psychologies.” The exhibition will last until 12 May 2018.

The shape of arc comes from a type of window on the façade of a residential building near the artist’s studio. The configurational combination of the geometric motifs signifies the interpenetration of different architectural elements.
