This exhibition is the first time in recent years that Cao Zaifei's works have been exhibited in Hefei. 60 recent paintings and the latest performance works by artist Cao Zaifei will be exhibited. The exhibition will continue until March 22, 2025.
Cao Zaifei's art is mainly based on the absurd scenes of our daily survival. He uses various media such as paintings,performances, installations, and videos to search for bizarre scenes and traces from our real-life situations. With exaggerated, humorous, and profane postmodern techniques, he satirizes and measures the vicissitudes and challenges of the times. Thus, he expresses his deep concern for the current social reality, clearly indicating his attitude and position of reflection, questioning, exposure, and criticism.
"Desolate Egg Collector" as the theme for Cao Zaifei's solo exhibition, based on the ideas suggested by his works. However, as a curator, I extended, strengthened, and summarized the charm of his absurd artistic expression with this keyword. 'absurd egg' is a homophone of 'absurdity'in Chinese. In his works, the shape of 'chicken and egg' often appears, as if he is a 'egg （same as absurd pronunciation in Chinese）picker' who is constantly found everywhere in reality; And with his artistic identity as a 'picker', he also carries the meaning of a 'messenger'. In my opinion, Cao Zaifei is an apostolic figure who shoulders and fulfills the social responsibility of contemporary artists. He uses artistic creation to criticize current problems, alleviate his inner anger and struggle, release his anxiety and unease that are difficult to calm down, and provide us with a black humor style alertness to our real-life situation.
