Overview
Don Gallery warmly presented Paradbox, the first ever solo show by Zhang Yunyao on April 19th, 2011. In this experimental show, the work will be displayed as an on-going project by the artist, who will be completing his whole creation in the Don Gallery during 6 weeks. His paintings and installations will support each other in the gallery space. After the show, the paintings on the walls will be preserved. The shovel-off pieces from the walls will be applied to Zhang’s new projects in the future.
As an up-coming young artist from Shanghai, Zhang Yunyao has been practicing his work on the theme of Paradox, on which he keeps investigating by paintings and installations in the last few years. From Paradox Game Series and Sisyphus to Overture in Ireland, his shows always use rough and raw material to create a primitive effect, and use a humorous tone to reveal the paradoxes in the mankind history. After many years of thinking on this subject, Zhang would like to turn his long-time practicing to an improvisational project for this show. We do not know what the final work will be. As the audience will see his whole work in the closing party, the work itself will be shoveled off as its final destiny. This act is a paradox for us.
Paradbox will be on for 6 weeks. Don Gallery will open to the public during the time. You are welcomed to drop by to see the artist working or to exchange ideas when he is off. Our closing party is from 3pm to 6pm on June 5th. Please do come and witness the whole work before it becomes dust.
