Reverse

26 June - 22 August 2010
Overview
From Jun 26 to Aug 22, Don Gallery proudly presents "Reverse", a solo exhibition by Cheng Yuyang. This is the series' first exhibition in Shanghai. Cheng Yuyang regards himself as a "dream seeker". His "Reverse" series is an attempt to go back to his dream. The artist uses special photographing skills to create a distorted image world.

The images from "Reverse" are exposed directly on silver prints with an 8*10 large format camera. A mosaic of 8 (or more) separate prints constructs one composition, making the works impossible to duplicate or reproduce.

Currently, Cheng Yuyang works and resides in Beijing. His works focus on historical subjects such as Tiananmen, Yuanminyuan (the Old Summer Palace), Shougang Factory (Capital Steel Factory), Hutong (Beijing Alleys), and the villages alongside lower-south Yangtze River, etc. The artist uses negative pictures to relate the reality to dreamland. By doing so, he gives the audience inspirations of modern life and society to let them reassure their existence in this familiar and strange world.
